Backup Battery System
IFD-NET Battery Backup Module (IFD-BKB)
Designed specifically for Ultralight, Light Sport (LSA), and Experimental aircraft, the IFD-BKB provides uninterrupted emergency power to your IFD-NET and companion MAV avionics in the event of primary electrical bus or alternator failure. Featuring instantaneous automatic switching and built-in battery float charging, it guarantees your critical flight instruments stay online without interruption.
Key Advantages & Power Architecture
Engineered to keep critical navigation and primary flight displays alive when cockpit power fails:
Instant Power Transfer
Switches instantly to backup battery power the microsecond primary bus power drops. Eliminates instrument power cycling, blackouts, or in-flight AHRS gyro re-alignment.
Automatic Float Charging
As long as main alternator/aircraft power is available, the IFD-BKB automatically maintains the secondary battery at full charge, ensuring full reserve capacity on every flight.
Full 1-Hour Autonomy
When paired with an affordable 12 V / 2.3 Ah lead battery, the unit supplies an entire six-pack panel layout (six 80 mm IFD-NET units + avionic module) for roughly 60 minutes.
Dual Voltage Flexibility
Directly compatible with standard 12 V/14 V airframe buses, and operates on 24 V/28 V electrical systems simply by wiring two 12 V batteries in series (rated up to 30 V).
Wiring & Connection Configuration
The IFD-BKB comes pre-wired with 20 cm aeronautical-grade 1.5 mm² wiring. Connect into your cockpit electrical circuit as follows:
- +12V IN (Red Wire): Connects to the unregulated aircraft alternator/battery charging bus via a dedicated 5 A fuse or breaker.
- GND (Black Wires): Connect to the central airframe ground chassis and instrument ground bus.
- +12V OUT / +24V OUT (Red Wire): Feeds the positive power terminal of your IFD-NET / IFD-microNET instruments via your cockpit avionics master switch.
- +BAT (Brown Wire): Connects to the positive terminal of your auxiliary lead backup battery via an inline 5 A fuse.

| Avionics Compatibility | IFD-NET EVO series, IFD-microNET series, and companion MAV instruments |
- Never connect a fully discharged battery: The IFD-BKB is a float maintainer, not a bench recovery charger. Always fully charge the secondary battery prior to installation.
- Connection order: Complete all panel wiring first, and leave the connection to the battery positive terminal (+BAT) as the final step to avoid short-circuit risks during assembly.
- Engine cranking: Isolate the avionics bus switch during engine start to protect instruments from starter-motor electrical spikes.
