The IFD-microNET EFIS Base is the 57mm (2.25 inch) entry-level version of the IFD flight instrument range. It is essentially the "no-frills" version of the larger 80mm Evo Base, condensed into a smaller form factor to fit standard light aircraft and microlight secondary holes.
In the UK, it is highly valued as a low-cost, high-reliability primary flight instrument for tight panels where every millimetre counts.
Core Description & Use Case
The "Base" designation is the most important part of this description. Unlike the Plus model, which can flip through multiple pages (Maps, HSI, Terrain), the Base is limited to a single, fixed environment:
- Primary Flight Display (PFD): It acts as a digital artificial horizon. The screen is locked to a single "Avionic" page that provides all critical flight data in one view.
- Standalone Functionality: It is a Master unit, meaning it contains all its own sensors (AHRS for attitude and pressure sensors for speed/altitude). It does not need a separate computer to work.
- Backup or Primary: It is frequently used as the primary horizon in basic microlights or as a dedicated "safety backup" in more complex aircraft.
Key Technical Features
- 57mm Format: Fits a standard 2-1/4" hole. This is the smallest fully-integrated EFIS on the market.
- Interface: Unlike the 80mm Evo (which uses a knob), the microNET Base uses a three-button interface to adjust parameters like the barometric pressure (QNH/QFE).
- Internal GPS: Includes a built-in GPS receiver to provide Ground Speed (GS) alongside your Indicated Airspeed (IAS).
- Sunlight Readability: Features an ultra-bright colour screen (approx. 1000 cd/m²), which is essential for open-cockpit flying in the UK.
Displayed Information
The single fixed screen shows:
- Artificial Horizon (Pitch and Roll)
- Airspeed Indicator (IAS) with adjustable safety ribbons (coloured arcs)
- Altimeter with settable reference pressure
- Vertical Speed Indicator (VSI)
- Slip Indicator (The "ball")
- G-Meter with peak recording
- GPS Ground Speed
